Bexley Grammar School

Overview:
Bexley Grammar School

Established in 1955, Bexley Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school situated in Welling within the London Borough of Bexley. The school, inaugurated by Sir Edward Heath, a former Member of Parliament, initially held foundation school status and later transitioned to academy status in 2011.

In 2017, the school made a significant shift by introducing the International Baccalaureate (IB) as an alternative to A Levels in the Sixth Form. The student body is divided into six 'houses,' each consisting of approximately 12 staff members.

Known for its ambitious curriculum, Bexley Grammar School maintains a comprehensive approach while encouraging in-depth inquiry. The curriculum is tailored to meet the individual requirements, capabilities, and goals of the students. One of the school's key strengths lies in fostering strong relationships between students and teachers.

Determining whether a child qualifies as selective relies on the standardized test results in the Bexley Selection Test. Nevertheless, if there are disagreements with the decisions, the child's primary school Headteacher has the option to request a review. In these instances, the Bexley 'Headteacher Review Panel' assesses all pertinent information, including the child's test scores, recent school work, and comments from the primary school Headteacher, before reaching a decision.
