Cranbrook School

Overview:
Cranbrook School

Founded in 1518, Cranbrook School is a co-educational grammar located in Cranbrook, Kent. It accepts pupils for both day and boarding school – however, as the school’s main point of entry is Year 9, no boarding school places are available at Year 7. Cranbrook is consistently high-performing when it comes to exam results and prides itself on teaching its pupils to be independent.

Extracurricular activities, such as the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, orchestra, and drama, evoke enthusiasm and effort among students. These pursuits, along with community initiatives and language exchanges, contribute to the development of social proficiency in alignment with Cranbrook's lively ethos. Core subjects include mathematics, science, and English, complemented by opportunities for artistic and humanistic expression.

The school is dedicated to preparing students for the challenges of the adult world by instilling values such as morality, spirituality, culture, discipline, and empathy. Emphasizing a holistic approach, Cranbrook invests in nurturing students' capabilities both inside and outside the classroom, offering a robust extracurricular program to help them discover hidden talents and reach their full potential.

• Priority admission: Cranbrook School prioritizes students residing within its designated catchment area for admission.

• Catchment area defined by parishes: The catchment area encompasses the established civil parishes of Cranbrook, Sissinghurst, Goudhurst, Staplehurst, Frittenden, Benenden, Sandhurst, and Hawkhurst. Residents of these parishes receive first consideration during the admissions process.

• Distance-based eligibility: In addition to parish boundaries, residents within an 8.5-kilometer (5.28-mile) straight-line radius of the school may also be eligible for priority admission. This acknowledges potential limitations of strict parish-based criteria. The distance from a potential applicant's residence to the school is measured in a straight line, not following road or other routes.

Cranbrook School employs the Kent 11 Plus exam structure, encompassing assessments in Reasoning, English, and Maths.

The exam format is as follows:

Section 1: A one-hour examination gauging students' reasoning abilities. Comprising shorter segments, the test assesses Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Section 2: A one-hour examination evaluating proficiency in English and Maths.

Section 3: A 40-minute writing task, including 10 minutes of preparation time. Although the writing task is not scored for the 11 Plus exam, it may serve as supporting evidence in borderline cases.
