Torquay Girls Grammar School

Overview:
Torquay Girls Grammar School

Established in 1915, Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a selective grammar institution catering to over 850 girls aged 11-18. It achieved academy status in 2011, previously being among the first UK schools to attain specialist status in humanities and pioneering the introduction of the AQA Baccalaureate. The school is often ranked among the top 10 state schools in the South West.

With a robust curriculum and a commitment to quality teaching, Torquay Girls’ Grammar School consistently sees strong student achievements across various subjects, reinforcing its reputation for outstanding GCSE results. Notably, almost half of all GCSE grades awarded to the Year 11 class recently were either a grade 8 or 9.

The school offers a diverse range of extracurricular activities, providing opportunities for girls to enhance their non-academic skills and pursue additional interests. From Guitar and Ukulele Club to textiles, debating, rounders, and dance, these activities aim to maximize the potential and ambitions of the student body in engaging and enjoyable ways.

Torquay Girls’ Grammar School takes pride in its pastoral system. The smaller size of the school enables staff to establish strong connections with all students, ensuring a happy and secure learning environment. Through ongoing efforts, the school strives to create an atmosphere conducive to students' preferred learning styles and social dynamics. This approach fosters a culture where students express themselves freely, actively participate in all aspects of school life, showcase enthusiasm in taking on responsibilities, and demonstrate eagerness to contribute to both their local and wider communities.
